Heinrich Minnie was born in Middelburg, Mpumalanga, in South Africa. He currently lives and works in Cape Town, South Africa. Minnie completed his Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art at the University of Cape Town (Cape Town, South Africa)in 2014. He is currently a Master of Fine Art candidate also at the University of Cape Town.
His work explores ideas around urbanisation and the urban environment, while focusing on the effects of the increasing digitisation of our cities.
Attempting To Install Updates (2018) uses easily accessible online voice-recognition software to capture complaints of staff and visitors at the Zeitz MOCAA. A residual piece, Applying Your Personal Settings (2018), showcases these complaints alongside a blurred video of the participants. In these works, digital communication seemingly fails to convey grievances in an effective manner.
Heinrich Minnie’s work Attempting To Install Updates (2018) is featured in the Zeitz MOCAA exhibition, The Main Complaint (2018 – 2019).
