Julia Kabat the SAFIM Assistant Curator of Painting and Xola Mlwandle the AKO Foundation Assistant Curator of Painting will host a film screening of Chris Ofili’s 2017 documentary, The Caged Birds Song.

How does one turn water into wool? If anyone is qualified for this seemingly impossible task, it is CBE British-Turner Prize winner Chris Ofili. This riveting documentary follows Ofili’s astounding process of transforming his watercolour painting, The Caged Birds Song into a Tapestry, with the assistance of the world-renowned Dovecot Tapestry Studio in Edinburgh. The outcome leaves one wondering, whether it’s wool or water?

This screening will be followed by a brief discussion and Q&A session.
