Date & Time

24 June 23 - 24 June 23

10:15 AM - 12:30 PM

Nigerian-born, British artist, Mary Evans’ solo show Gilt is currently on show at the Zeitz MOCAA. Evans presents new works commissioned by the Museum that bring history to life though life-sized silhouette cut-outs made from kraft paper. In her series History Paintings, Evans depicts iconic moments of struggle, collective resistance, and resilience. The artwork 1976, History Painting, was made in remembrance of the Soweto Uprising, marked every year in South Africa as Youth Day. Join us this June for a Family Learning Workshop where participants will make their own silhouettes honouring youth today, and work together to create a narrative scene for their own History Painting.

The Zeitz MOCAA’s Family Learning Workshops at the Centre for Art Education (CFAE) enable parents/guardians and their children to share a creative experience and develop their engagement with art, together. Materials and equipment are provided along with a snack break.
