Zeitz MOCAA GALA is the museum’s annual fundraiser and highly awaited grand evening in the social calendar. The 2024 Gala will take place on Sunday, 11 February 2024.
The Gala serves as a very special gathering for rejuvenation through communal support to one of Africa’s most prominent art institutions. The evening is an enchanting and galvanising experience that consolidates a common goal shared by private philanthropy and corporate social responsibility for the support of the arts.
Emceed by South African model and businesswoman Jo-Ann Strauss, the evening includes a seated dinner, tours of the museum exhibitions, and the awarding of the Zeitz MOCAA Honorary Award for Artistic Excellence and the Zeitz MOCAA Honorary Award for Philanthropic Achievements. Guests will be entertained by South African singer and songwriter Simphiwe Dana and Capetonian artist Nobuhle Ashanti.
An Exclusive Auction facilitated by Strauss & Co will see works by some of the greatest artists working today, including Mary Evans, Alfredo Jaar, William Kentridge, Senzeni Marasela, and Abdoulaye Konaté, amongst others.
The overall Gala scenography and key design elements are inspired by renowned South African artist Athi-Patra Ruga – drawing from his rich artistic oeuvre and adding a layer of aesthetic depth to an event that promises to be an enchanting experience.
Proceeds of the Gala benefit Zeitz MOCAA’s curatorial and education programmes.
The Gala kickstarts the Cape Town Art Week that rolls out with Investec Cape Town Art Fair and multiple artistic activations in and around the city.
The Gala includes a special invite-only Collateral Programme for select VIP guests hosted by Koyo Kouoh, Zeitz MOCAA Executive Director and Chief Curator.
