Do you know about art collectives? How about spaces for experimentation and exchanging ideas? What role do artist initiatives play in changing how we think?
Join us on Instagram live on Tuesday, 13 October at 6PM SAST / 4PM GMT for another head to head conversation between Ibrahim Mahama, artist and founder of SCCA Tamale and Koyo Kouoh, Executive Director and Chief Curator of Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA) in Cape Town, South Africa, as they discuss all these ideas.
Ibrahim Mahama lives and works in Accra, Kumasi and Tamale. In March 2019, Ibrahim Mahama opened the artist-run project space Savannah Centre for Contemporary Art (SCCA) in Tamale, Ghana, followed by the opening of Red Clay in nearby Janna KpeÅ‹Å‹ in September 2020. Encompassing exhibition space, research facilities and an artist-residency hub, both sites represent Mahama’s contribution towards the development and expansion of the contemporary art scene in his home country.
