(CAPE TOWN, Thursday, 3 October 2024) Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA) announces its annual Gala, to be held on Friday, 21 February 2025. This highly anticipated and ever-decadent event plays a crucial role in sustaining the institution’s mission, with proceeds directly supporting its curatorial and education programming. The Gala is a celebration of the diverse artistic excellence emerging from the continent and its vast Diaspora, drawing a global audience of patrons, art philanthropists, collectors and cultural luminaries.
The themed evening begins with a red carpet welcome and a private champagne reception in the museum’s Atrium. Guests will then experience an exceptionally curated gastronomic experience within a grand glass marquee, against the dramatic backdrop of the museum’s iconic façade. Attendees will be captivated by thought-provoking art installations, live musical performances, and an exclusive awards ceremony. The Gala will be expertly hosted by Zeitz MOCAA Global Council member and entrepreneur, Jo-Ann Strauss, one of South Africa’s most respected media personalities.
“The Gala creates a vital space for philanthropists and corporate partners to come together in support of contemporary art from Africa and its Diaspora and the preservation of our continent’s rich cultural heritage. It stands as a powerful reminder of the collective energy that sustains and strengthens Zeitz MOCAA and its BMW Centre for Art Education, reinforcing our shared commitment to nurturing the creative voices shaping Africa’s future,” says Koyo Kouoh, Zeitz MOCAA Executive Director and Chief Curator. “I warmly invite art enthusiasts, philanthropists, and corporates alike to join us to support and sustain the work of Africa’s premier art institution,” encourages Kouoh.
A key moment in the evening is the presentation of the institution’s prestigious Zeitz MOCAA Honorary Awards for Artistic Excellence and Philanthropic Achievement to art industry luminaries who have made exceptional contributions to our art ecology and our mission, and who have shaped the landscape of contemporary art in Africa and its Diaspora.
The Gala includes an exclusive invite-only Collateral Programme specially curated and hosted by Koyo Kouoh, which runs from Friday, 21 to Sunday, 23 February 2025. The three-day programme brings together some of the world’s most significant art collectors, museum directors and other influential members in the global arts industry. Curated to offer unparalleled access into Cape Town’s thriving art landscape, patrons and friends of Zeitz MOCAA are invited to an immersive experience of the city’s rich cultural offering while fostering relationships and cultivating lasting connections. Highlights include artist walkabouts, private studio visits, gallery visits for exclusive previews, cocktail receptions, and other intimate gatherings, ensuring a memorable experience of the city’s peak summer art season.
