Children’s autumn holiday programme

CHILDREN’S AUTUMN HOLIDAY PROGRAMME
STAY, REMEMBER, CREATE, ENJOY
25, 26, 27, 28 MARCH 2024

The Children’s Autumn Holiday programme this year will take the form of Open Studio workshops, celebrating the mediums and techniques of four artists, Yinka Shonibare, William Kentridge, Cyrus Kabiro and Igshaan Adams who have all exhibited work in the Zeitz MOCAA before. Cyrus Kabiro’s wonderful C-stunner spectacles which were exhibited in his self-portrait photograph in 2017, can now be seen in real life in the new collection show, called SALA.

In the spirit of SALA which is an invitation for visitors to slow their pace and linger longer in the exhibition, we have designed the holiday programme so that children can come and stay as long as they would like, making a variety of different artworks in the holiday workshop space.

Four tables each inspired by one of the artists mentioned, will have different two- or three-dimensional activities laid out that will be offered on all of the workshop dates. A fifth table will have a changing surprise activity each day.

Workshops are open to all children age 6 – 12. Children will be registered at the beginning of the class and only parents and guardians will be allowed to sign children out when they have completed one or more of the activities. Younger siblings (5yrs or younger) must please be accompanied by parents or guardians at all times if they wish to participate in the workshop activities with a brother or sister. We welcome teens who would like the opportunity to create amongst and alongside younger children!!

On each day the workshop will begin at 10:15 and run uninterrupted until 13:00. Your children can stay as long as they would like and will be engaged by the teachers and facilitators to complete an activity. Children may also take a break for a snack in between activities.

Members’ children are invited to participate in the workshops free of charge.

Zeitz MOCAA Membership is R390 for 12 months.

For non-members, a single entry with your child is R250.00

Parents and guardians, you are requested to deliver your child/children the workshop venue where they will be registered. You will be guided to the venue on the day.

Please do not leave your child/children unaccompanied in the reception area.

TABLE ACTIVITIES

The activities listed below will be offered every day from 25 – 28 March in an Open Studio workshop format. Children may do a different activity each day or two activities on one day depending on their age and/or how long they wish to stay. It is unlikely that even older children will complete all the activities in one day. All activities are offered from 10:15 – 13:00 each day. We welcome teens who would like the opportunity to create among and alongside younger children!!

1. The Cyrus Kabiro table: LOOKING AT ME LOOKING AT YOU

Children will be invited to transform their look and become a character they would love to be by making their own C-Stunners with a variety of interesting and surprising recycled material

2. The Igshaan Adams table: WEAVING AND WONDERING

Using looms of different shapes and sizes, children will have the opportunity to weave with wonderful threads, wool, string, fabric, natural fibres and much more.

3. Yinka Shonibare table: PRINT AND PATTERN

Inspired by the Dutch Wax fabrics that Yinka Shonibare uses in his sculptures and installations, a riot of bright colour fabrics will be transformed with printed patterns then sewn into cool tote bags, mobile phone cases, belts and anything else children are inspired to make.
