JUNE MEMBERS’ WORKSHOP: SERIAL SELECTIONS

Jun 5, 2024

Selections from the Collection is an exhibition that showcases artworks from the Zeitz MOCAA Permanent Collection currently on display on level 2 of the Museum. The exhibition is a selection of works from the collection of over 500 objects, ranging from works on paper to photographic prints, sculptures, and more, that focuses on contemporary artistic practices from Africa and its diaspora.

The artworks in this exhibition can be described in many ways. The curators have created a glossary of key adjectives that speak to the variety of objects and ideas in the Exhibition to act as a suggestive launchpad for observations and interpretations of the artworks and the connections between them. One of the adjectives is SERIAL: in series; similar or even identical individual artworks that come together in succession to form a larger body of work. In this workshop the concept of serial in relation to artmaking and contemporary art practice will be unpacked and explored by looking at works in the exhibition and through artmaking. Each member will make their own series in 2D or 3D informed by this concept and inspired by the diversity of contemporary practices from the continent and beyond that they see in the Exhibition.

The Zeitz MOCAA’s Members’ Workshops at the Centre for Art Education (CFAE) offer members a creative experience to develop their engagement with art and deepen their understanding of the artwork on exhibit at the Museum. Materials and equipment are provided along with tea, coffee and snacks.
