Grace Notes

Curator:
Thuthuka Sibisi

Chorus Master and Conductor:
Marvin Kernelle

Chorus:
The Cape Town Opera Chorus

Following its acclaimed premiere in France in 2016, and sell out performances both at St George’s Cathedral and St. John’s church Wynberg in Cape Town last year, we’re delighted to bring back this unique concert of a cappella sacred music in the weeks leading up to the Easter period. Juxtaposing ancient and modern music from Europe and Africa, Grace Notes intersperses sacred compositions by Byrd, Palestrina, Duruflé and Pärt with religious music drawn from Xhosa, Venda, Zulu and Swahili traditions. A moving reflection on the yearning to express spirituality through music, Grace Notes uncovers lines of connection across continents and centuries.

Curated by Thuthuka Sibisi, Grace Notes, a unique concert of a cappella sacred music, will be performed at the Zeitz MOCCA.

R300 includes the concert, exclusive access to the museum and a drinks reception.

As seating is limited, you are advised to book early to ensure that you don’t miss this special event.

“Cape Town Opera’s Chorus was the best I have encountered – better than in France, Italy, Israel and New York.” – William Kentridge.

“The South African voice is unique, rich with colour and strength and it represents this country’s best qualities. Cape Town Opera nurtures that voice, providing opportunities for a wealth of talent. Cape Town Opera gives to audiences – both at home and abroad – the opportunity to experience that wonderful South African sound, what a gift!” – Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu
