Fright at the Museum

Oct 14, 2026

An after-hours adventure in mystery, creativity and the unexpected!

What happens when the museum closes at the end of the day? What stories might reveal themselves when the building is quieter, the lights are lower and you are invited to look at it differently?

This October, Zeitz MOCAA invites young people to step beyond the ordinary and experience the museum in an entirely new way. Fright at the Museum is an immersive after-hours adventure where creativity, history, architecture, exploration and mystery come together. Inspired by the history and industrial architecture of the former grain silo, the evening begins with a mysterious story: a worker known only as Worker X has disappeared, leaving behind clues to a hidden stash somewhere…

Working in teams, participants will enter the museum’s transformed historical archives, navigate three unique clue rooms and take on a series of unexpected challenges. They will need to observe closely, think creatively, work together and follow the clues to uncover the location of the stash. Each room offers a different experience, inspired by the history, machinery, spaces and stories connected to the grain silo.

Alongside the investigation, participants can explore hands-on creative stations where they experiment with charcoal, shadow, ink, light and unexpected marks to create mysterious images and reveal what might be hiding beneath the surface. These activities are designed for everyone—whether you consider yourself an artist or simply enjoy making, experimenting and trying something new.

Participants are also invited to dress up for the unexpected. Come as a mythical creature, mysterious traveller, historical character, artwork, futuristic explorer, alter ego—or something entirely your own. There are no rules about who you have to become for the night.

Your R450 ticket includes:

A four-hour after-hours museum experience

An immersive three-room mystery investigation
