Family Learning: Red Postcards Workshop

Aug 19, 2021

Drawing inspiration from Senzeni Mthwakazi Marasela exhibition, Waiting for Gebane – soon to close at the Museum – the Red Postcards Family Learning Workshop offers parents/ guardians and children the opportunity to play, explore and develop their connections with creativity through making their own postcards.

Some of the themes Senzeni Mthwakazi Marasela explores in her artwork are waiting, longing and passages of time. With the continuing limitations that Covid-19 has put on our lives around going places, travel and seeing people, we all have a sense of longing for what life used to be like. We miss seeing our friends and family and being able to go places as we wait for the pandemic to come to an end.

Working from their own experience, and inspired by the themes, colours and materials that Marasela works with, the parents/ guardians and children will create mixed media postcards from materials provided, including textiles, photocopies, red thread and paint.

The Family Learning Workshops enable adults and children to share a creative experience, work collaboratively and learn together.

Booking for the workshop is essential.
