Pamela Phatismo Sunstrum realised that she has always been a lover of stories. The kinds of stories that she has always loved have been our common myths. Throughout the world and throughout time we all seem to have this interest in heroes or heroines and the quests that these figures embark on. We can also imagine ourselves as heroes/heroines and our own experiences as filled with meaning.

Consider the shape, form and creation of these mythical female beings as they perform imagined non-temporal and non-spatial movements from no fixed place. They are constructed with geodesic precision and intricate detail like diagrams from science and anatomy. Sunstrum’s process of drawing is preceded by her writing and interest in the language of ideas. This process and the medium is closely related in consideration of drawing as mark-making.

The setting of a mountainous geographical landscape references the philosophical theory of the sublime. It can also refer to the vastness of our connection without mathematical limitation. There is no calculation for this feeling of greatness, whether physical, moral, intellectual, metaphysical, aesthetic, spiritual, or artistic.

Here, the figure of the goddess is evoked, powerful in many African myths. In the realms of creativity and intellect exists feeling, thought, and memory that proves the intangible across dimensions and time.
