In this painting, a large amount of water is poured out of a red bucket.
As municipalities have struggled to provide basic services, commodities such as water have become indicators of social status. The wealthy elite, desperate to keep their lawns green, have dug deep boreholes that draw from decreasing underground water tables. Everybody else has had to adjust to using the ‘Bucket System’, a cleansing regime that enables considered and careful use of this most precious commodity.
