This Heritage Day, Thursday, 24 September 2026, Zeitz MOCAA once again opens its doors to the public to celebrate the richness and diversity of South Africa’s cultural heritage with free entry to the Museum all day. From 10 am to 6 pm, visitors can enjoy a vibrant programme of art, culture, and activities designed for all ages.
Throughout the day, guests will be able to explore the Museum’s galleries with guided exhibition tours of its celebrated collection and the extraordinary works currently on view. Multilingual architecture tours will focus more than a century of history of the Grain Silo and its remarkable transformation into the world-class museum we know today, offering unique insights into the heritage of this iconic building.
Heritage Day is a family friendly event, and everyone is invited to participate in hands-on workshops that spark creativity and ignite the imagination. The Silo Tote Bag workshop, a returning Heritage Day classic, invites teenagers and adults to create personalised tote bags inspired by the Museum’s distinctive silos, while our younger visitors can look forward to a brand-new workshop inspired by the current exhibitions. Who safeguards our art and heritage? Join a new immersive experience that allows you to see art through the eyes of our Art Patrol. These workshops, held throughout the day, ensure there is something for every age group to enjoy.
While the art and architecture will fuel your curiosity, the dedicated outdoor food court powered by Makers Landing will fuel the entire family for the day, serving local flavours and live musical performances that bring the spirit of Heritage Day to life. Visitors can also look forward to a variety of live performances by the V&A Buskers and other local groups.
Those wishing to avoid queues and experience the Museum all year round can sign up for membership, which offers unlimited access throughout the year, family-friendly engagements, and exclusively curated benefits.
Visitors can enhance their experience through the Bloomberg Connects app, a digital companion designed to help audiences navigate and engage with the Museum. The app provides access to exhibitions, programming, and a detailed map of the museum’s seven floors, making it easy for visitors to discover where exhibitions and Heritage Day activities are taking place throughout the building.
With multilingual functionality, Bloomberg Connects also allows visitors to explore content in a range of languages, including South African languages, creating a more accessible and inclusive way to experience the Museum’s exhibitions and programme.
For this year’s Annual Heritage Day celebration and open day, we invite you to come Find Your Connection to heritage at Zeitz MOCAA and through the Bloomberg Connects app. Explore the stories, experiences and perspectives that shape us.
