August Family Learning Workshop: If a Protea Is Not a Flower…

Aug 7, 2026

This August, families are invited to a Family Learning Workshop inspired by the exhibition A Protea Is Not a Flower, currently showing on level 4 at Zeitz MOCAA. The exhibition looks at what it means to leave your home, how it shapes your identity and the memories you carry with you.

In the spirit of the exhibition’s intergenerational dialogue, this workshop will engage families through playful, collaborative making and shared storytelling – reflecting on identity, belonging, and imagination.

Using paper-sculpture techniques, families will create unique artworks to explore how artists use symbols, materials, and actions to tell stories.

Zeitz MOCAA’s Family Learning Workshops at the BMW Centre for Art Education give parents/guardians and children the chance to share a creative experience and deepen their engagement with art together. All materials and equipment are provided, along with a snack break. To sustain the quality and continuity of this programme, a modest workshop fee has been introduced, effective from the end of February 2026.
