Join our 2026 Curated Art Tour to Harare, Zimbabwe, an exciting moment to explore Harare’s rich cultural history and dynamic contemporary art scene through curated visits to artist studios, independent galleries and key institutions. This immersive experience offers meaningful insight into Zimbabwe’s influential artistic landscape, hosted by Michèle Sandoz, Dr Greer Valley, and Tiffany Andrews.

The Zeitz MOCAA Art Tour series was created by our late and beloved Executive Director and Chief Curator Koyo Kouoh. She believed it vital to closely and meaningfully connect the museum with art communities throughout the continent, and in the education of museum patrons and supporters about artistic practices on the continent. We continue this annual programme to forefront her goals and to build on the multiple trips she personally led to Dakar, Nairobi as well as Accra and Tamale.

Highlights

Across three carefully structured days, participants are guided through a rare continuum of Zimbabwe’s creative landscape, beginning with direct access to artist-led spaces and studios. Highlights include visits to Village Unhu, founded by Georgina Maxim and Meshek Masamvu, and the rural-based Pamurove Foundation in Domboshava, offering a deeper understanding of how artists are building alternative infrastructures beyond the city. A dedicated welcome breakfast at CHEUKA Art Fair sets the tone for intimate engagement with key cultural actors shaping Harare’s contemporary scene.

The programme then moves into institutional and curatorial frameworks, with visits to the National Gallery of Zimbabwe and First Floor Gallery Harare, alongside tightly curated studio visits including Mbare Art Space, Animal Farm Artist Residency, and Wallen Mapondera’s studio—offering a concentrated view of Harare’s artistic production and visibility networks. A potential CIMAM-aligned moment adds an important international dialogue layer, situating Zimbabwe within broader global museum discourse. The experience concludes with a softer cultural landing at Chapungu Sculpture Park and a possible private collection visit, before departure from Amanzi Lodge, which serves as a serene and well-supported base throughout the trip.

* A full itinerary will be shared with you 3 weeks prior to departure.
