Where Justice Meets Art: A Talk by Albie Sachs, a Presentation by the Stellenbosch Art Law Society, and an Art-making Workshop

Nov 27, 2025

Art had anticipated change before history had brought it about: as I never tire of saying, our jazz musicians wrote our Constitution in music long before we lawyers wrote it in law.’
— Albie Sachs, 2016

Join us for a morning that celebrates the intersection of creativity and justice. In collaboration with the Stellenbosch Art Law Society, Zeitz MOCAA presents a special workshop exploring the dynamic relationship between art and law.

The programme features an inspirational talk by Albie Sachs—activist, writer, and former judge of South Africa’s Constitutional Court—followed by a presentation by the Stellenbosch Art Law Society, a student-led organisation dedicated to bridging the gap between artistic practice and legal knowledge.

Drawing inspiration from these conversations, participants will create photomontages using images from The Albie Collection and quotes from Spring Is Rebellious: The Art & Life of Albie Sachs, currently on show on Level 2 of the museum. Together, we’ll explore how art and law—often seen as opposites—are united by imagination, interpretation, and a shared commitment to justice.

All art materials, breakfast snacks, and refreshments are included.
