Heritage Day at Zeitz MOCAA! Free Access for All!

This Heritage Day, Wednesday, 24 September 2025, Zeitz MOCAA invites everyone to celebrate the richness of South Africa’s cultural heritage with free entry to the museum all day. From 10 am to 6 pm, visitors can immerse themselves in a vibrant programme of art, culture, and creativity designed for all ages.

A Day of Exploration and Connection
Throughout the day, guests can take part in multilingual architecture tours offered in Afrikaans, English, isiXhosa, isiZulu, SiSwati, and Tshivenda. These tours highlight the 101-year history of the Grain Silo building and its remarkable transformation into the world-class museum we know today. In addition, guided exhibition tours will provide fresh insights into the museum’s celebrated collection and special exhibitions currently on view.

Workshops for All Ages
For families and individuals eager to get hands-on, interactive workshops will take place throughout the day. The Silo Tote Bag workshop invites teenagers, adults, and families to create personalised tote bags inspired by the museum’s iconic architecture. Children can enjoy the Soaring Silos Windsock Kite workshop, where they will design and decorate colourful kites to celebrate heritage and artistic freedom. These activities ensure that everyone—from the youngest visitor to seasoned art lovers—has the chance to create something memorable.

Exclusive Member Access
Zeitz MOCAA Members will enjoy even more on Heritage Day including priority entry and access to the Members’ Lounge. An exclusive conversation with Albie Sachs will take place where the activist, writer, and former Constitutional Court judge reflects on his exhibition Spring is Rebellious: The Art & Life of Albie Sachs and shares his thoughts on the importance of heritage and the arts. Members will also have the opportunity to purchase the beautiful Spring is Rebellious merchandise from the Zeitz MOCAA Shop and have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get it autographed by Albie Sachs himself.

For those not yet part of the museum community, membership offers year-round experience with unlimited access, family-friendly engagements, and exclusive benefits. It’s the perfect way to avoid queues on the day and to continue engaging with Africa’s leading museum of contemporary art.

Throughout the day, guests can explore the museum’s galleries through multilingual and guided tours, offering fresh perspectives on Zeitz MOCAA’s celebrated exhibitions. Families and individuals of all ages are invited to take part in interactive art workshops, designed to spark creativity and provide hands-on experiences with contemporary art.

Celebrate Together
Beyond tours and workshops, visitors can enjoy live music and local flavours at the outdoor food market, with the Atrium and Rooftop Terrace transformed into lively gathering spaces.

Heritage Day at Zeitz MOCAA is more than a museum visit—it’s a chance to connect, learn, and celebrate together.
