JULY FAMILY LEARNING WORKSHOP: FOUND, TAKEN AND REIMAGINED

Jul 1, 2024

The title of the July Family Learning workshop, Found, Taken and Reimagined is a play on the title of Angolan artist, Edson Chagas photographic series, Found Not Taken that is currently on show in Sala, a Zeitz MOCAA Permanent Collection exhibition on the 1st floor of the Museum. Chagas work is photojournalistic in nature and explores the social conditions of contemporary cities. The Found Not Taken series belongs to a body of work called Luanda, Encyclopaedic City, and catalogues unwanted, abandoned objects found on the streets of Luanda and other cities where the artist has lived and worked, highlighting the excess of a growing consumer culture. The installation in Sala comprises of 9 stacks of mass-produced images selected from the series that viewers are invited to take.

In this workshop children and their parents will be invited to select one or multiple images from Chagas series to work with to create their own artworks that recontextualise the objects into new imagined environments using collage, drawing materials, ink and paint.

The Zeitz MOCAA’s Family Learning Workshops at the Centre for Art Education (CFAE) enable parents/guardians and their children to share a creative experience and develop their engagement with art, together. Materials and equipment are provided along with a snack-break.
