On Youth Day, 16th June, the Zeitz MOCAA Centre for Art Education is holding a special workshop for teenagers aged 12+ to celebrate the spirit of youth today, inspired by Nigerian-born, British artist, Mary Evans who’s solo show Gilt, is currently on exhibit at the Zeitz MOCAA. Evans presents new works commissioned by the Museum that bring history to life though life-sized silhouette cut-outs made from kraft paper in her History Paintings series. She depicts iconic moments of struggle, collective resistance, and resilience. The artwork 1976, History Painting, commemorates the Soweto Uprising, which is annually observed in South Africa as Youth Day. Participants will create their own silhouette that captures their thoughts and feelings about being a youth. They will then add their figure to the picture plain of a collaborative History Painting, made by all the workshop participants.
Materials and equipment are provided along with snacks and refreshments.
