Xola Mlwandle was born in the Eastern Cape, South Africa. Currently, Mlwandle is the AKO Foundation Assistant Curator of Painting at Zeitz MOCAA. Mwandle is Completing the Curatorial Training Programme at the Centre for Curatorial Excellence at Zeitz MOCAA.
As the AKO Foundation Assistant Curator of Painting, Mlwandle administers the exhibition process, assists the museum’s curators and works closely with artists whose work will be on show at Zeitz MOCAA. She also composes wall texts associated with paintings from the Zeitz MOCAA collection and loaned works. In addition, Mlwandle researches artists and their production. Mlwandle will be amongst several Assistant Curators who will give visitors guided tours and presentations that will enhance their experience at the museum. Xola Mlwandle’s position at Zeitz MOCAA is supported by the AKO Foundation.
In 2016, Mlwandle completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Archives and Records Management at the University of Fort Hare (Eastern Cape, South Africa). Mlwandle holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Fort Hare (Eastern Cape, South Africa: 2015). Mlwandle studied Fine Art from 2009 to 2010 at Lovedale TVET College (Eastern Cape, South Africa).
In 2015, Mlwandle completed an internship at the Fort Beaufort Historical Museum (Eastern Cape, South Africa) in the Archives/Registrar Department. In 2016-2017 Mlwandle worked at the Iziko Museums of South Africa’s Social History Centre (Cape Town) in the Conservations department as an intern.
