Ellen Kondowe was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. Currently, Kondowe is currently the Registrar at Zeitz MOCAA (Cape Town, South Africa). Kondowe was previously the Assistant Registrar at Zeitz MOCAA (Cape Town, South Africa). Kondowe graduated from the Curatorial Training Programme Centre for Curatorial Excellence at Zeitz MOCAA with a scholarship from the AKO Foundation.
In 2017, Kondowe was a featured participant at the inaugural Culture Summit 2017 hosted by the Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority in conjunction with the Foreign Policy Group and TCP Ventures, LLC in Abu Dhabi. The same year, Kondowe was awarded a scholarship by Goodman Gallery to attend Rose Shakinovsky’s Modern and Contemporary Art Survey Course (Johannesburg, South Africa).
From 2015 to 2016, Kondowe worked as Head of Communications for the Invisible Borders TransAfrican Photographers Organization (Lagos, Nigeria). In 2015, Kondowe completed a three monthinternship focusing on e-commerce and logistics with fashion company KISUA (Johannesburg, South Africa). In 2014, Kondowe completed a design internship with Suzaan Heyns Studio (Johannesburg, South Africa). The same year, Kondowe was also shortlisted for African Fashion International’s FastTrack programme (Johannesburg, South Africa)—which grooms emerging design talent within the African fashion industry and exposes them to global audiences. Kondowe holds a Diploma in Fashion from the Spero Villioti Elite Design Academy, (Johannesburg, South Africa) which she earned in 2013.
In 2012 and 2013, she completed the New York City, Summer Program at Parsons the New School for Design (New York, USA)
run in partnership with the Spero Villioti Elite Design Academy.
