Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA) is looking for an Assistant Curator to join the team.
Reporting to the Senior Curator, the position is responsible for activities related to the research, management, archiving, realization of projects with artists, lenders and art institutions and the care of the Zeitz MOCAA permanent art collection. Working closely with the curatorial team on production and installation of permanent and temporary exhibitions and collection displays, publications, and related public programs designed to advance the foundation’s mission.
This position requires a talented professional skilled in collaboration across the museum departments. Ability to contribute to the development and growth of robust exhibition and discursive programmes that engages diverse audiences and advances artistic and cultural discourse.
A Master’s degree is preferable, or a degree in Art History, or equivalent. Specialization in contemporary art is highly desired. With a minimum of 5 years’ experience in museums or comparable cultural institutions. Be passionate and knowledgeable about contemporary culture from Africa and its diaspora. Having the ability to speak, write and read French business language is and added advantage.
Advanced research skills and a solid background in modern and contemporary art history as well as art handling experience is essential. Come with good networks and experience working with artists, VIP guests and institutional stakeholders. Work in a professional demeanor, with diplomatic skills, and with the ability to handle sensitive situations. Effective time-management to deliver as per objectives and plan on exhibitions and programming. Must possess advanced writing skills, including but not limited to analytical writing. Team leadership, delegation, and development.
